Chorus Director - Pioneer Valley, MAThe Pioneer Valley Symphony seeks a Chorus Director to begin in September 2009. Weekly rehearsals September-May in Deerfield, Massachusetts from 7:30-9:30 on Tuesday evenings; additional rehearsals Wednesday and Friday evenings of concert weeks. Major works in 2009-10 are La Traviata (semi-staged) on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Academy of Music, Northampton; Bach - Saint John Passion on Sunday, March 21, 2010 in Northampton; and choral music of William Schuman on Saturday, May 8, 2010 in Greenfield, Massachusetts.
Qualifications: Outstanding choral conducting and leadership skills; broad knowledge of choral repertoire; excellent command of Latin, Italian, French, German and English diction; proven recruiting ability; and strong interpersonal skills with the PVS Chorus members, officers and accompanist, as well as with the PVS orchestra members, musical and administrative staff, and board of directors.
Annual salary: $5000 (10-month contract)
The Pioneer Valley Symphony (www.pvso.org), which celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2009, is one of the leading musical institutions in western Massachusetts. Led by Music Director & Conductor Paul Phillips since 1994, the Pioneer Valley Symphony & Chorus have earned national attention for their adventurous programming and high performance standards. The PVS Chorus, founded in 1961, generally performs 2-3 programs with orchestra plus one non-orchestral concert per season. Membership is by audition. Currently the PVS Chorus has approximately 70 members.
Applicants with significant orchestral conducting experience who are interested in also serving as Assistant Conductor of the Pioneer Valley Symphony and who are available on Wednesday evenings should indicate their interest in this additional position.

The Elementary Music Teacher develops in each student an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; teaches techniques of vocal or instrumental musical expression; discovers and develops talents of students in the field of music; and develops knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.
DUTIES.  Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Teaches knowledge and skills in music, including techniques of vocal or instrumental musical expression, following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement. Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate;
2. Evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn;
3. Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to, the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning;
4. Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for re-certification;
5. Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed;
6. Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS.  To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must have the following:
1. Licensed, or eligible for licensure in Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General, All Levels, by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education;
2. Meets all Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education standards for Highly Qualified Teacher;
3. Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field;
4. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults;
5. Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements.

Organist and Choir Director - Leominster, MA. A position is open for Organist and Choir Director for a 125-member traditional and informal United Church of Christ congregation located in North Leominster, MA, about 30 minutes north of Worcester. Our historic Victorian sanctuary boasts a 1880 Hook & Hastings organ, a well-maintained Yamaha grand piano, and a friendly, family-oriented congregation with 50 in worship.
This per diem position requires 4-5 hours per week, 11 months of the year, on Sunday mornings to provide music for worship, lead and accompany a small volunteer choir, and play for several special services including Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday. Occasional attendance at meetings after services is helpful. Accompanying for weddings and funerals is optional. We seek experience in church liturgy and sacred music, dependability, flexibility, creativity and collaboration.

Music Director - Lincoln, RI. The Cumberland-Lincoln Community Chorus, an SATB, non-auditioned, intergenerational chorus, is seeking a director to begin Summer of 2009.
Qualifications:
A minimum Bachelor of Music degree and significant, proven directing skills, to include:
1. A passion for excellence in choral directing.
2. Ability to teach basic music theory to adults and junior/senior high school students. Ability to guide volunteer/amateur singers in choral techniques and vocal production; teach musicianship, singing in foreign languages, and provide background/historical context of music and composers.
3. Broad knowledge of diverse repertoire with creative and interpretive skills for varied musical genres
4. Knowledge of musical arrangement and composition.
5. Demonstrated leadership, strong communication skills, organizational, motivational, and group management skills. Team builder and ambassador for the chorus in the community.
6. Patient, with a sense of humor and strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to varying age groups and personalities. Ability to collaborate with accompanist and other professional instrumentalists as needed; willingness to advise Board in artistic decisions affecting the chorus; willingness to support the developmental efforts of the chorus.
Rehearsals are Tuesday nights from 7-9:15pm. Other subgroups rehearse on a different night.
CLCC performs between 15-20 concerts year. Salary is negotiable

Associate Director of Music Ministry - Worcester, MA.  Assumption College, a Catholic liberal arts and professional studies college in Worcester, Massachusetts seeks an Associate Minister of Music (part-time) to join a collaborative Campus Ministry staff. Responsibilities include conducting and directing volunteer choirs; identifying and preparing students to cantor at liturgies; coordinating logistics and outreach; working collaboratively with the Director of Music Ministry in choosing music and in preparing worship aids; creating and coordinating Chapel Choir and cantor schedules.
The successful candidate must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of Assumption College and demonstrate respect for its Catholic and Assumptionist identity.

Music Teachers - New Bedford, MA.  The New Bedford Public Schools is seeking full time Music Teachers to complement our growing team of arts educators. There are multiple positions available at the elementary level for general music which will include chorus and possibly some instrumental group lessons.

Tenor Needed - Hingham, MA.  Tenor section leader/soloist section leader (part of paid SATB quartet)  needed for Unitarian Universalist church in Hingham MA beginning February 1, 2009 through June 21st. Must be excellent musician, have a sense of humor and be willing to sing all genres of music from opera to jazz and pop.  No mid-week rehearsal.  Choir rehearses 9:30 a.m. every Sunday.  Service begins at 10:30 and usually ends about 11:45.  Music is distributed at least a week in advance. Pay is $55 per service, payable at the end of each month. Possibility for wedding/funeral gigs and year-round position at one of the most historic churches in the United States.
