Cantus
Cantus is a male vocal ensemble founded at St. Olaf College, based in Minneapolis, MN. The twelve singers harbor a strong dedication to excellence, and this dedication is perfectly clear from their flawless presentation of diverse literature. Their repertoire ranges through all time periods and genres including chant, Renaissance motets, folk songs, art songs, and sacred music of the twentieth century. Cantus has many composers and arrangers in the group offering a wealth of new music and new perspectives on old favorites. Founded in 1995, Cantus is already gaining national recognition as one of the finest male vocal ensembles in the country. Cantus has produced three recordings, and they have been on several tours of the US. The summer of 1998 brought Cantus to the East Coast for six weeks. The next summer included Minnesota through Texas and New Mexico. These first tours were exceptional. Cantus was met with warm welcome and praise across the nation -- from Rhode Island to South Carolina, and from Chicago to Baltimore. Cantus has now become a professional, full time singing ensemble. Audience members everywhere now have a new standard of excellence. address 2104 Hastings Ave. Newport, MN 55055 website http://www.cantusonline.org email cantus@cantusmensinging.org Last revised October 08, 2006.
